I still couldn’t believe it, I had seen what seemed like, a ghost, of all things. I was about to scan in a science access card into it’s slot when, all of a sudden, the hallway lighted up and someone, no.....something suddenly ran ahead of me and stopped at the door. It started to cry for help, saying that it wanted to get through the door. I didn’t know what to do....then it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. I shuddered and slid the access card home, opening the doorway and steped through. I received an email from the doc upstairs....she uploaded some cyber mods to me and told me to find the elevator, easy enough I thought. Then suddently this strange creature ran up to me screaming in a half human half undead voice and swung a pipe in my face. I dodged just in time and reciprocated with a wrench blow to it’s gut, and head. After examining the corpse, I ripped off what appeared to be a partially mutated human organ...the head....it had some sort of....worm attached to it’s temple and chest. I didn’t want to know, suddenly I started hearing voices down the hallway towards the Medical section. I never wanted to get out of anywhere quicker than at that moment. I ran down the corridor and punched the elevator door panel.....nothing...I hit it again, then jumped nearly out of my skin as my email system came alive with the doc’s voice. She said that XERXES, the computer AI in control of the Von Braun had shut down the elevators, why would it do such a thing? I had to reactivate the power by heading to engineering, but I had no idea how to get there. Then I noticed the maintinence hatch.....I needed a passcode however and I couldn’t hack the door. I proceded to walk towards the XERXES hub of the deck. Maybe I could find something useful in....the door opened and I was rushed by another of these...hybrids. I didn’t know what else to call them, as they were obviously once crewmembers turned mindless killers. Sort of like the military I suppose. Something clicked in the back of my mind, the Rickenbacker.....maybe the military crew was still alive and fighting....but I didn’t see anything to indicate they were helping out...I had feared that maybe they were too, transformed in some way....I turned down a hallway and heard a beeping noise, I looked up and saw a security camera....I shot it immediately, if XERXES was insane, the security probably was as well and I didn’t need anymore of these disgusting things after my body. Let alone driods walking up my bum. I sighed as I walked to the bulkhead to Medical.....the power was cut to it as well, and a body on the floor was smoking and smelling something like BBQ chicken....I picked up the dead power cell and glanced around....carefully noting where I was, I activated the mini-map and it appeared in my lower right eye. Useful stuff this R-grade cyber gear. I headed towards the power recharge station, but it was located behind two turrets....I ran by a security terminal and skidded to a halt, I immediately jacked into it and disabled the security systems on the Science area. I procedded to the power recharger, I ran into another one of those hybrids and did it in with no particular problem, this one was eating and bashing a corpse on the ground. I almost threw up. I jumped down the ladder and was greeted by XERXES telling me that I was breaking the rules....hell who cares? The turrets were inactive and I charged up the power cell. I ran to the medical bulkhead and plugged in the cell, the security bulkhead thankfully opened and I squeezed through. I breathed heavily and pulled the bulkhead activation switch as the doc’s voice greeted me again and congratulated me. I still had a long way to go.....and I knew that something terrible was going on aboard the ill fated Von Braun and the Rickenbacker, nothing like I had ever imagined......if I could only remember what had started all of this....but I couldn’t. I could only sigh, pull up my wrench, and run out from under the bulkhead to greet whatever awaited me in the next section of the ship......
